About Burl:

What is veneer? Veneer is a thin slice of hardwood made by rotary cutting or slicing the actual log.
Is it real wood? Yes! Slices of wood are bonded to a more stable substrate making them less susceptible to warping or splitting.
What will mine look like? Our burl veneers are real wood that come from a unique tree so no two will be alike. Each slice is book matched by our artisans to best showcase the naturally occurring patterns in the wood.
What about the coloring? This uniqueness of the veneer will affect how the stain applies. Your piece will not look exactly like our pictures online, but we think that’s the beauty of burl!

At Scout Design Studio, we pride ourselves on both extraordinary craftsmanship as well as using superior materials for our custom-built furniture program. Our bespoke products are proudly manufactured in Dallas, Texas by a team of more than 40 skilled artisans. We use domestically sourced woods – including but not limited to Birch and Poplar – as well as Plywood and MDF panels that comply with EPA TSCA Title V standards. Our fine veneers are carefully sourced from European and American purveyors to ensure exceptional quality and beauty in appearance while also responsibly maximizing log yield.

Care:

Use protection with liquids. Wipe spills immediately and do not allow liquid to collect on the surface.
Avoid contact with hot items. Use placemats or barriers as necessary. Clean using a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Do not use abrasive materials such as paper towels.
Do not use harsh chemicals and detergents as they may damage or deteriorate the finish.
Wood is a natural material and responds to changes in temperature and humidity. Extreme fluctuations can cause wood furniture to crack and/or finishes to lift. As a precaution, do not place wood furniture directly above or below air vents/space heaters.
